ASTM A514 is a standard specification for high-yield-strength, Quenched and Tempered alloy steel plate for use in welded bridges and other structures. ASTM A517 covers high-strength quenched and tempered alloy steel plates intended for use in fusion welded boilers and other pressure vessels. The plates shall be subjected to heat treatment to conform to the tensile and hardness requirements for thickness, tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, reduction of area, and Brinell hardness.
ASTM A514 steel plates are also available in eight grades: A, B, E, F, H, P, Q and S. ASTM A517 steel plates are available in eight grades: B, S, H, Q, E, F, A and P. Rack for offshore platforms is generally with A514 or A517 Gr.Q or Grade Q modified that depends thickness. Their hardness is between 235-290, yield strength is greater than 620MPa and tensile strength is above 700MPa, suitable for offshore ad subsea structural application such as jack-up offshore platform piles.
