1020 steel pipe is a low carbon (non-alloy) steel pipe that offers better mechanical and physical property like weldability, ductility and high corrosion resistance, commonly used the automotive, mechanical and construction application.
The 1020 steel has a carbon content up to 0.28 percent according to AISI, SAE and ASTM standards. ASTM A512, A513 and A519 which can be used to specified mechanical tubing. ASTM A513 specified for Resistance Welded (ERW) carbon and alloy Electric mechanical tubing, while ASTM A512 covers cold drawn buttweld carbon steel mechanical tubing, ASTM A519 is a standard specification for Seamless Carbon and Alloy Steel Mechanical Tubing. 1020 Cold drawn seamless tubing is finished in “as drawn” treatment condition. It offers good surface quality and increased mechanical properties compared with hot finished seamless tubing according to ASTM A519.
1020 hot finished seamless tubing is most applicable and lower in cost than cold drawn where precise dimensions and surface quality are of secondary importance. Meets ASTM A519 which either hot-finished or cold-finished.
1020 DOM (Drawn –over-mandrel) tubing is a cold drawn electric resistance welded tube meets ASTM A513 Type 5.
