Structural Steel Plate Materials For Offshore Application

Offshore structural steel plates are mainly used in the manufacturing of floating tankers, container ships, LNG (liquefied natural gas), LPG(liquefied petroleum gas), large tankers, large bulk carriers, submarine pipelines, jack-up offshore platforms and semi-submersible offshore platforms. The special environment of ocean and bad climate making steel plate for use in offshore application can resist corrosion, decrease brittleness – especially in cold temperatures and increase strength and toughness to resist vibration. Offshore and marine-quality steel plate are mainly specified in ship class (ABS, DNV…), ASTM, API, EN specification, etc.


Ship class standards D36, E36, grade F, EQ series are mainly high strength thick steel plate; ASTM A517 Q, A514 Q are often used for jack-up offshore platform piles; EN 10225 steel is widely used in offshore structures and offshore wind power projects. API 2W, 2Y, 2Z steels can be used to build offshore platforms. The thickness of these steel plates is 6mm up to 178mm, the yield strength is 40KG~70KG, the impact toughness reaches -60 C high strength thick plate steel, generally normalizing, TMCP, tempering and other heat treatment processes are needed to your exact requirements.
