The pipe fitting connected to a pipe by socket welding may be called a socket welding pipe fitting. Forged/ wrought steel socket weld fittings are used in the pipeline where requiring exceptional strength of welded joints, including 45° bend, 90° bend, tee, cross, double socket coupling, cap, union, etc. Both the fittings and pipes are square cut, no need beveled end or preparation other than cleaning the outside, which allows easy welding and installation. They are mainly used for small pipeline (small bore piping) with diameters NPS 2 or less.
